The Commercial Registration (CR) is the foundational legal document for any business operating in Saudi Arabia. It is issued by the Ministry of Commerce and includes the company name, legal structure, commercial activities and registered address. The CR must be renewed annually and is required to open bank accounts, sign contracts, hire employees, register with GOSI and access government portals. Any change in company activities, address or ownership must be updated on the CR promptly. Operating without a valid or renewed CR constitutes a legal violation subject to fines and closure orders.
